Eating healthy is something everyone wants to do, but no-one is sure how to.

All the food companies want you to believe that all you have to do to be healthy, is buy whatever they’re selling. They have the idea that people will pay high prices for ‘health in a bottle’ products. Eating healthy is a lot more complicated than that.

Balance is the key to eating healthy. You have to balance the different food groups in your diet. By diet, I mean the things you eat, not diet as in weight loss. That means you need to balance the amount of carbohydrates, fats and proteins you take in with each meal you eat. Start reading the back of labels. They will tell you how many nutrients your food contains, and stay away from foods that are high in any one of those things unless you are planning to mix them with something else to make a complete meal.

On average, a person eats too many carbohydrates and fats, but not enough protein. In most cases, the first thing you need to do in order to balance your diet is cut back on the amount of sweets and snacks you consume. Focus on eating more meat and dairy instead. It may sound obvious, but people will go out of their way to balance their meals and then ruin it with snacks.

Other things you need to consider are vitamins. Vitamins are necessary in at least small quantities for your body to function properly. Instead of taking vitamins pills, get your vitamins from eating fruits and vegetables. Don’t skip breakfast either. Most cereals have added vitamins, and they’re a great way to make sure you get enough.
